Position Overview – The Tandoori Box is seeking a passionate and experienced chef to join our team at our St Agnes Location. We are looking for a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen, takes pride in quality and consistency, and is ready to play a key role in our growing business.

Task & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and present an extensive selection of authentic Indian cuisine, featuring both traditional regional specialties and modern creations, ensuring consistent taste, quality, and visual appeal at all times.
  • Maintain consistency in flavour, presentation, and portion sizes to ensure a high-quality dining experience.
  • Coordinate food preparation and service to ensure timely delivery of dishes, even during peak service periods.
  • Uphold strict food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards within the kitchen.
  • Manage daily food preparation tasks, including chopping, marinating, seasoning, and pre-cooking ingredients.
  • Monitor stock levels, rotate inventory appropriately, and minimise food wastage through effective portion control.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth workflow and efficient service operations.
  • Assist in developing and testing new menu items, seasonal dishes, and daily specials.
  • Support, guide, and provide basic training to junior kitchen staff to maintain performance and standards.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment, tools, and work areas.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to work confidently with diverse cooking styles and a wide variety of dishes.
  • In-depth knowledge of Indian spices, regional cuisines, and traditional cooking techniques
  • Strong organisational abilities with excellent teamwork skills.
  • Capability to maintain consistency and high performance in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Creative flair for designing menus and introducing innovative dishes.
  • Proficient in inventory and cost management practices.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations, with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards.

Role Requirements:

  • Availability to work extended hours, overtime on Saturday and Sunday by mutual agreement.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of workplace safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
  • At least 1 year of relevant full-time work experience as a Chef, preferably in an Indian restaurant setting.
  • Working knowledge of WHS & environmental standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • The position is open to all AU citizens, PR's and full-time work holders.
