Margaret River Bakery is seeking BAKERS AND PASTRYCOOKS to join our kitchen team in a busy commercial food production environment. The successful candidates will assist with the preparation and production of baked goods or pastry items while maintaining high standards of product quality, food safety and kitchen organisation.

You will be reporting directly to the Head of Production.

Annual salary: $77,000 – $80,000 per year (depending on skills and experience) plus superannuation.

Task & responsibilities

The Successful Candidates Will Demonstrate

  • Experience working in a commercial bakery, pastry kitchen or similar food production environment.
  • Practical skills in producing baked goods or pastry items in a professional setting.
  • Confidence following recipes and working within structured production schedules.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling practices.
  • Ability to operate bakery equipment such as mixers, ovens and preparation tools.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage preparation tasks during busy production periods.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining consistent product quality.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Preparing and producing baked goods or pastry items in line with daily production requirements.
  • Measuring and combining ingredients according to established recipes and preparation methods.
  • Preparing doughs or pastry components in accordance with recipes and daily production requirements.
  • Baking products while monitoring oven settings and ensuring consistency in quality and presentation.
  • Maintaining clean and organised preparation areas and ensuring equipment is used safely.
  • Monitoring ingredient levels and assisting with stock rotation and proper storage of supplies.
  • Working with other kitchen or bakery staff to maintain production flow during busy periods.
  • Following food safety and hygiene procedures in accordance with workplace and regulatory standards.

Depending on operational needs and the successful candidate’s experience, duties will focus primarily on bakery production OR pastry preparation.


Qualification & experience

The right person for this position has a relevant AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in a highly relevant course. You will also need at least 1 year of highly relevant work experience in the last 5 years.

You MAY be eligible if you don't have a relevant qualification but at least 3 years of fulltime work experience in the last 5 years.

Required: Safe food handling certificate.
