A Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of meals while maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and kitchen safety. The role involves working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, ensuring ingredients are properly handled, meals are prepared according to recipes, and food safety regulations are followed. The Cook contributes to efficient kitchen operations and consistent food service.

Task & responsibilities

• Examine foodstuffs to ensure quality and freshness.
• Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, and other cooking equipment.
• Prepare and cook a variety of food items according to recipes and standards.
• Season food during cooking to enhance flavour and presentation.
• Portion food, place it on plates, and add gravies, sauces, and garnishes.
• Store food in temperature-controlled facilities to maintain safety and quality.
• Prepare meals to meet special dietary requirements where required.
• Assist with menu planning and estimate food requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Train or assist other kitchen staff and apprentices when necessary.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate III/ IV in commercial cookery. 
• Have at least 2 years of experience
