Raja Sweets by Sharma is a well-established restaurant known for serving authentic Indian cuisine, traditional sweets, and freshly prepared dishes inspired by classic flavours of India. Located in Victoria, our restaurant offers a diverse menu including Indian street food, vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries, traditional sweets, chaat, thalis, and freshly prepared breads, providing customers with a genuine Indian dining experience. 

We are currently seeking qualified and experienced Chef to join our team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will have a passion for preparing authentic cuisine, strong knowledge of kitchen operations, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy hospitality environment while maintaining high food quality and hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

• Planning and preparing a variety of authentic dishes including traditional Indian curries, street food, breads, sweets, and specialty menu items

• Designing and contributing to menu development including seasonal dishes, special menus, and function menus

• Coordinating with management and kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations during service hours

• Preparing and cooking dishes according to established recipes while maintaining consistency in flavour, presentation, and portion sizes

• Supervising food preparation and ensuring dishes are presented attractively and meet the restaurant’s quality standards

• Monitoring food quality throughout preparation and service to ensure high customer satisfaction

• Managing the cooking process by controlling cooking temperatures and ensuring all dishes are prepared correctly

• Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, proper food handling procedures, and storage standards

• Managing kitchen inventory including ordering ingredients, monitoring stock levels, and maintaining supply records

• Supervising and supporting kitchen staff including cooks and kitchen assistants to ensure efficient workflow

• Training staff on food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and proper use of kitchen equipment

• Inspecting kitchen equipment, work areas, and food preparation processes to ensure operational efficiency

• Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment in compliance with workplace health and safety standards

• Monitoring food costs and assisting with cost control measures to maintain kitchen efficiency

• Demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and a strong commitment to high standards of hospitality and food preparation

Skills and Experience Required

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• AQF Associate Degree, Certificate III, Certificate IV, or Diploma in a relevant Hospitality or Commercial Cookery qualification

• At least 1 year of experience working as a Chef in a busy commercial kitchen

• Experience preparing Indian cuisine, sweets, or traditional dishes is highly regarded

• Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety practices, and quality control

• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment

• Experience in rostering, stock control, and food cost management

Employment Details

Full-time position (minimum 38 hours per week)

Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 per annum plus superannuation
