BOULANGERIE DE LA FRANCE FRANCHISING UNIT TRUST t/a De France, is a French-inspired restaurant and cafe offering a diverse menu of freshly prepared meals, artisan breads, and pastries, renowned for its warm hospitality, quality ingredients, and commitment to traditional culinary craftsmanship. We are currently seeking a full-time Cook to join our team, with the role based in Miranda, NSW. This position is 38 hours per week, and the ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of relevant experience and hold a diploma qualification in hospitality management. A competitive salary of $77,000, plus superannuation, is on offer.

Task & responsibilities

Menu Input and Cost Awareness

  • Assist in identifying ingredient quantities and maintaining portion control to support efficient food preparation and minimise waste.
  • Report customer feedback and ingredient availability to management.

Food Preparation and Cooking

  • Prepare and cook meals such as breakfast, light lunches, and snacks, following cafe menu specifications.
  • Use established recipes and portion guidelines to maintain consistency in flavour and presentation.
  • Cater to basic dietary needs as required.

Routine Kitchen Operations

  • Perform day-to-day kitchen duties including food preparation, cooking, plating, and serving.
  • Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure prompt and accurate meal service.
  • Support efficient workflow during busy trading hours.

Food Quality and Safety

  • Inspect ingredients for freshness and quality before use.
  • Monitor cooking times and temperatures in line with food safety standards.
  • Keep work areas clean and hygienic, following food handling and sanitation requirements.

Stock and Storage

  • Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies during shifts and report low stock to management.
  • Store food items correctly in appropriate temperature-controlled environments.
  • Use stock rotation techniques to reduce waste and maintain freshness.

Basic Supervision and Support

  • Assist less experienced kitchen staff with food preparation and hygiene practices as required.
  • Work collaboratively with other kitchen team members to meet service demands.

Communication and Coordination

  • Liaise with cafe staff regarding menu items, customer preferences, and service requirements.
